Mukilteo lacrosse club was started in 2003, drawing kids from several local high schools. The team started with 15 players with varying levels of experience. In its first year, Mukilteo lacrosse produced two all state players, while exposing numerous more to the game of lacrosse. Nate Lazenga was the first High School coach and founder of our club.
In 2004, Mukilteo lacrosse expanded to offer a 7th and 8th grade team in order to offer younger kids new to the game abundant playing time and individual coaching. Within 2 years our "Mojo Red" 7th-8th grade team won their division and moved on to the 3rd round of the state semi-finals.
In 2006, Mukilteo lacrosse offered a 5th and 6th grade team.
In the 2007 season, Mukilteo's colors have changed from red and white to purple and grey.
In 2008, our club formally organized as a 501(c)(3) corporation and elected its first Board of Directors and club officers. The original charter Board members consisted of Ron Thompson,President;Jan Wanzer,Vice President;Ann Van Cotthem,Treasurer;Kim Gleason,Secretary and Board of Directors; Amy Beck, Bill Callahan, Nate Lazenga, Cindy Linari, Justin Van Ness and Deb Varner. Sucessful fundraising activities and organization structure put our club in a strong position for the future.
Our Mukilteo lacrosse program also expanded again in 2008 to offer a 3rd/4th grade team. To meet the popularity of our program we also fielded 2 teams at the 5th/6th grade, 7/8th grade, and Boys high school levels.
In 2009, Mukilteo Lacrosse added a high school boys' frosh/soph team along with the boys JV and varisity team. Our highlighted accomplishment was the addition of our first high school girls' team with Sarah Flynn as our first girls' lacrosse coach.
Our boys' HS varsity team completed the regular season in conference play ar 12-0 and was the Skagit Conference Champions. They went on to the state playoffs for the first time in our club's history and eventually lost in the State Quarter Finals 10-12 to the eventual State Division II Champions, Overlake.
In 2010 plans are to add a second high school girls' team (JV). Further, our club has been moved up to Division 1 and thus will be competing against even higher caliber lacrosse programs.
Even though the club is still relatively young, it continues to prepare new and experienced athletes for lacrosse at the high school and collegiate level. As lacrosse continues to be Washington's fastest growing sport, the Mukilteo Lacrosse Club continues to keep pace in offering one of the finest clubs in the region.
