WASHINGTON BOYS: Riley Wanzer Commits to Whittier College

Mukilteo senior long-stick middie Riley Wanzer has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Whittier College.

Wanzer said he also considered Roanoke, Ithaca and Cortland before setting on the Southern California-based school.

“I did a lot of visits to the East Coast, but I prefer the West Coast because of the people and the weather,” Wanzer said. “I want to stay close to home, and Whittier’s the only school that offered me a spot on the team all four years. That was important to me.”

Wanzer said he is amped to take is game to the next level.

“I’m excited to get more serious about lacrosse,” he said. “I look forward to being affiliated with a school instead of a whole district.”

Colin Thompson, a Senior at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, Washington has committed to play Lacrosse for Gwynedd Mercy College beginning in the fall of 2010.  Gwynedd Mercy is a private 4 year, Division 3 school, located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania about 25 miles NW of the city of Philadelphia.  Colin is a four year letterman for the Boys High School Mukilteo Lacrosse Club Team and this year’s co-captain.   

Other schools Colin was recruited by and considered were Guilford University in North Carolina, Alvernia University and Misericordia University in Pennsylvania. 

Colin states “It is really quite an honor for a West Coast player to be recruited to play at the East Coast “hot bed” of Lacrosse in this country.
